An introduction to pipettes
A pipette is a device used to quantitatively transfer liquids. Pipettes are generally divided into two types, including quantitative pipettes and adjustable pipettes, which are usually used to transfer small or little amounts of liquids. For the selection of pipettes, manufacturers generally pay more attention to the accuracy and reusability of the pipette. Therefore, it is very important to verify the pipette before use for users. In addition, in daily use, frequent operations or improper operation and maintenance will lead to inaccurate indications of the pipette and deviations in the detection results, which not only affects the experimental data, but also reduces the service life of the tool. Therefore, this type of measuring tool needs to be regularly verified in strict accordance with the national metrological verification regulations to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the data. Generally, the general technical considerations for pipettes mainly include five parts, that is, appearance, pistons, regulators, suction nozzles and tightness. For the plastic casing of the pipette, the requirements for flatness and smoothness should be paid attention to, and whether there is peeling, rusting and layering for the metal surface should be paid attention to. Moreover, the pipette also needs to be marked with multiple standards such as product names and nominal capacity. The piston should be moved up and down smoothly. For the requirements of the adjuster, it needs to be able to rotate flexibly in the adjustment process, and can display the digital indication. The inner wall of the pipette tip should remain smooth and there should be no residual liquid after the pipetting process. The verification process of the pipette includes the first verification in use and subsequent verification. In the verification process, the verification environment should be kept at a room temperature of 20°C, and the room temperature should not change too much, which should be controlled at 1°C per hour. The main test items include appearance tests, closure tests and capacity tests.
Daily cleaning and maintenance of pipettes
In order to ensure the accuracy and precision of the pipette, regular maintenance should be carried out according to the specific use situation, which can appropriately prolong the service life of the pipette.
1. If the pipette is not used for a long time, the range of the pipette should be adjusted to the maximum scale, so that the spring is in a relaxed state to protect the spring.
⒉ Regularly clean the outer wall of the pipette. You can use 95% alcohol or 60% isopropyl alcohol; wipe with distilled water, and dry naturally.
3. Check whether there is leakage when it is used. You can place the pipette tip vertically for a few seconds after sucking the liquid to see if the liquid level drops. If it leaks, check whether or not the suction nozzles are matched and the spring piston is normal.
4. When there is liquid in the pipette nozzle, it is strictly forbidden to place the pipette horizontally or upside down to prevent the liquid from flowing into the piston chamber and corroding the pipette piston.
5. Use the correct method to install the pipette tip. Remember not to use too much force.
